The celebration aura starts to take place from 1st of December itself because from that day on my family engages in shopping, buying gifts for everyone and decors for the Christmas tree. After having a buffet dinner with my family, we attended midnight mass at the church on 24th December night. But on the big day, I was up before the sun. My eyelids were not heavy at all. I slid down from my bed, elbowing my cousin sister who was in deep slumber. We both took the stairs to reach the hall room where I, my cousin sister and my two cousin brothers had put up the Christmas tree. We tiptoed across the hall room. The ornamented tree was the only source of light. We noticed that rainbow lights hanging from the tree made architectural impressions on the gifts positioned under the tree. We craned our neck to identify which ones had our names. But as we were supposed to open it in front of the entire family, we waited.

 

Our cold body absorbed the heat from the fireplace. My sister and I chatted aimlessly till our parents, aunts and uncles got onto their feet. Finally our parents settled themselves on the sofas with streaming cup of coffee. We cousins remained around the tree; everyone was eager to tear the wrapper which had their names on it.
One of my aunts read the story of the Christmas from Luke, as it is a tradition in our family. Then we thanked Jesus Christ for the gifts. I could feel the excitement in my little brother as the prayers came to close. The moment we all pronounced ‘amen’, there was only high pitched noise for the rest of an hour or so. The wrappers and their parts were scattered on the ground. Cries of delight were ringing in the air. When the last gift was opened the sun was brightly shining in the sky. After this exciting episode, we sat down to breakfast. We served ourselves with American breakfast and chocolate milk and lively conversation made the morning more alive.
We cousins were debating on which Christmas movie we would watch. As the afternoon arrived, dreadful feeling made a blanket on our mind that the magical day would draw to a close soon. We had Christmas dinner: leftovers, honey ham, smashed potatoes with veggies. Soon it was bedtime for us. Our cousins were instructed to set alarms for early morning as they had to return to their home, but not before they promised to do the same thing next year too.

 

The best of our Christmas tradition is everyone gets the chance to meet their family, to rejoin with their loved ones. The warmth and sacredness of the occasion always gives us merry feeling. After all it is one of the most joyous memories that we carry throughout our lives.
