CHEM3210 Principles of Instrumental Analysis

The presentation is to be on a process from the Biotechnology or similar field. The presentation of the process will include:Note ( I have picked brewing beer  but you can pick any brewing product related to biotechnology or if you find another topic easier,  we can discuss and chose it ).

-Process Instrumentation Diagram

-Written & graphical overview

-Discussion of some of the Sensors in the process (what, where and why)

-Discussion of some of the Actuators (what, where and why)

-Identification and discussion of a Process Control Loop

-Description of materials of construction and material compatibility

-The grade for the presentation will be determined by:

-Accurately convey the thought or message

Vacuum Crude Distillation 

Vacuum crude distillation is the second main step in the refining of crude oil.The thick heavy residue from the first step (atmospheric tower) needs to be heated To high Temperatures. Too high a temperature (>350 C) degrades the crude and causes major problems.A vacuum tower runs at a small fraction of an atmosphere pressure and thus the temperature is well below 350C.
