Topic:
Health and Environmental Impacts of Canada’s Oil Sands Industry
Stakeholders:
Nation, Environmentalists, Industries, Government
Introduction:
Over recent years, development of oil sands of Northern Alberta has become focus of intense development and debatable issue because of environmental and health issues, including overall greenhouse gas emissions, major landscape disruption from surface mining, major consumptive water use and massive tailing ponds wastes toxic to fish and waterfowl.
Considering economic aspect, oil sands have been a major source of investment and development in Canada not only Alberta but the federal government (via increased tax), the Ontario manufacturing sector, and trade persons from across Canada who migrated for employment.
Major paper includes:
First part:
It covers the environmental and human consequences of Oil sands development, related government inadequate and viable policies and alternatives.
Second part:
It provides information on crude oil pipelines, carbon capture and storage, and political, economic and industry influences
Conclusion:
Discuss about low carbon performance, global warming and growing concern about increased oil sands development and global exploitation of non-renewable fossil fuels. what about job creation and job losses?
Research needs:
There is need to study long term effects (notably in reclamation and groundwater) Need of advance alternatives of bitumen recovery technologies that have a minimal environmental effect and decrease energy and water use Need to better understand and quantify interaction between ground water and surface water i understand where you are going with this. good topic, make sure you cover the research needs before you finish with your conclusions.
