The mindset you should have as you do research and write paper: The aim of this review is to help the reader understand the importance of the project. You want them to see why they should consider biofuel and what they stand to gain. In order for you to do that you have to tell them what had been done in the past and what is done now. You should help the reader see that most efficient, cheapest, most feasible way to convert vegetable oil to aviation fuel(biokerosene).
Some of the things I need to see in the body of work
1.Discuss importance of renewable energy and JUSTIFY
2.Discuss availability of resources for feedstock in the UK(so in this particular case, vegetable oil)
3.Discuss ethical issues related to topic
4.Discuss hydrothermal conversion
5.Discuss pathways that have been used to convert vegetable oil to biofuel so some people have done ;
Hydrotreating then cracking
Hydrotreating then hydrocracking
Hydrolysis and esterification
Hydrolysis then aqueous phase reforming(water gas shift) then deoxygenation then cracking
Listed above are 4 pathways people have used, there are others, find them and discuss them too
The main pathway to focus on will be Hydrolysis then aqueous phase reforming(water gas shift) then deoxygenation then cracking
7. Obviously you have to do a more detailed review of each of the three stages i.e
What is hydrolysis, what type of reaction is it, describe the mechanism and kinetics, what are the types of hydrolysis, , what have people done on hydrolysis of vegetable to fatty acids, what were the best operating conditions, is it best with a catalyst or not,, what are the best catalysts,
What is aqueous phase reforming, what type of reaction is it, describe the mechanism and kinetics, what are the types, what have people done on aqueous phase reforming of glycerol to produce hydrogen, what are the best operating conditions, is it best with a catalyst or not, what are the best catalysts, (I included this stage as a precursor to deoxygenation because this stage produces hydrogen and the deoxygenation stage uses up a lot of hydrogen, so this stage could contribute to the next, hence saving cost/resources, minimising the hydrogen consumption)
What is deoxygenation, what type of reaction is it, describe the mechanism and kinetics, what are the types, what have people done on deoxygenation of fatty acids(or maybe even deoxygenation of vegetable oil), what are the best operating conditions, is it best with a catalyst or not, what are the best catalysts,
What is cracking, what type of reaction is it, describe the mechanism and kinetics, what are the types, what have people done on cracking of fatty acids into straight chain alkanes or just alkanes(or maybe even cracking of vegetable oil to alkanes), what are the best operating conditions, is it best with a catalyst or not, what are the best catalysts,
8. Conclude with what is missing from literature and your recommendation for future work
