Digital Wellbeing is about fashioning and sustaining a healthy relationship with technology. As technology plays a big part in our lives, we find ourselves spending an increasing amount of time online and on our devices. Our wellbeing is dependent upon our mental and physical health and thereby our digital wellbeing is influenced by our online interactions and the amount of time we spend on our devices.


Whilst technology and the internet can simplify and enhance our lives, they can also be distracting, be a cause of anxiety, and make us feel upset. Being in control of technology enables us to use its full potential and gain all the benefits of it. 


As an IT researcher, you are assigned with a project to research the efficacy of digital products and features specifically designed to improve health and wellbeing, answering the question, “Do digital technologies improve life or distract from it?” You are to submit a complete technical report, including project literature review to establish a solid background in defining, identifying, evaluating and establishing a coherent view of digital wellbeing. The project management plan, this involves, a completed logbook and performance review. The project management plan is designed to define how the project is to be planned, executed and monitored. The project management plan should give details of the actions required for the integration and coordination of various planning activities to carry out the project. The project logbook is designed to provide evidence of the project development process and ongoing reflection. It should provide evidence of thought, direction of project and in particular, what problems encountered and steps taken to address them. The performance review will provide evidence of reflection and evaluation of the project management process and individual performance.


Your findings may be evaluated and compared with existing reports published, synthesised with data gathered in producing a comprehensive conclusion and recommendation. Quality, Authenticity, Accuracy and Reliability of information sources used in the report is paramount and hence you should take all precaution in using outside sources especially that of statistical nature and/or open source nature. Every project is unique yet all project should adhere the three constraints (scope, time, and cost), and to meet these three requirements the project management should as well include work breakdown structure and Gantt chart that should include milestones providing timeframes and stages for completion It is one of most important steps in generating knowledge which will form the basis for analysis of the chosen research question; based on which a complete and coherent view of the topic is clarified. The literature review is a search and or a secondary research to evaluate the available literature in given topic area.


There are many methods that can be used to enquire and collect data, which in turns may be influenced by the underpinning methodology thus broadly studied and discussed as (qualitative, quantitative). You are to establish and evaluate the most suitable methodology/method for which data acquisition is conducted and analysed.


Raw data collected cannot by itself express reality and/or establish knowledge, the data is required to be analysed and evaluated. This analysis should then be used to form the basis to draw conclusions. The final part of the research is the conclusions, this naturally flows and is established from the above discussions of secondary and primary research conducted.

As a researcher you should evaluate and reflect on the success of the project, the decision-making process and its usefulness in supporting organisational performance, and hence the impact of your own performance.
