Issue Related to Hunger and Food Insecurity
The study into what is right or wrong is termed as ethics. The paper has the objectivity for what is right and what is wrong which shall include the understanding of the ethical problem, critical analysis, arguments and refer to the contrary view. The paper will define the ethical issue and draw the impacts of the ethical problems. To complete the paper, the topic of the obligation of economically developed nations to alleviate extreme poverty in foreign countries has been selected. The ethical issue drawn from the topic of extreme poverty in the foreign countries is hunger and food insecurity.
The international community and the developed nations of the world is engaged to remove or alleviate poverty. The community and major developed nations have made various summits and commitments to eradicate or reduce the misery of poverty from the lives of the humans. However, the actual progress is relatively very slow even if the measures to remove the poverty are affordable. Hunger and food security is the most serious issue in the recent times and needs more attention by the international communities and other developed nations of the world. The major developed countries have participated in the World Food Security 1996, which set an aim to minimize the rate of poverty in the world by the year 2015. However, after taking such steps in the previous years by the international communities and the advanced countries of the world but extreme poverty remains the greatest concern in the developing regions of the world. Unless proper policy implementation is done, Hunger and poverty will remain at high level within the human population of the world (Godfray and Garnett 2014).
Poverty has led to the problem of malnutrition within the effects of health on population of the world. Inadequate nutrition has been described as “a scourge in our world”. Major population of the world is not getting the right quantity of food and nutrients. Supply of health care and environmental hazards has led to the serious impact on health and overall development of the society. Improper nutrition has contributed towards early deaths, impaired physical, and brain development within children. This has led to the poor health condition among adults and has a serious impact over the socio-economic developments of the developing nations. The topic of nutrition and feeding he world with proper nutritious diet is deeply rooted within ethics. Nutrition is not the only ethical issue within the subject of food security. The research provides a review of the ethical concerns about the policy, action and the responsibility on the field of nutrition. The paper also includes about the values and the strategies, which are ethically justifiable.
The major cause of malnutrition is poverty and to eradicate, sustainable development and distribution of wealth in an equitable way is required to be implemented. Increasing population of the world has caused uneven distribution in the wealth in the agricultural sector. However, it has been estimated that 75% of the people under poverty level live in the rural sector and are small-scale farmers. Increase in the population has created unequal distribution of income and it poses a problem in achieving sustainable development.
Analysis of Ethical Problem
The complexity in the relations between different countries and lack of policies and decision making create slowing of economic and social development. The political management of the countries is the determining factor for resolving the worldwide issue of poverty. Political initiatives must be strengthened to generate good results and reduce the impact of malnutrition and poverty. The relation between the countries plays a vital role in the market supply and demand for goods and services, which can create a sustainable development.
We all know that natural resources are the basic assets or raw materials to the production of food, which in turn creates rural development, sustainable growth, and maintain a balanced population. Natural resources should be used in a systematic and scientific way. Pressure in the natural resources is growing day by day with the increase in population. Therefore, efficient use and conservation is highly required to process economic development. Scarcity of water, climate change and extreme weather conditions is the growing cause of the malnutrition and food insecurity in the developing countries of the world. Climate change has critical impact over the agricultural sector and producing of food products. This directly affects the ecological balance and nutritional balance among the population and indirectly affects the creation and distribution of wealth. Therefore, climate change has serious impact over the issue of malnutrition and food insecurity in the global market. Growing effects of climate change, land degradation and water scarcity may cause short in agricultural and foods products n the upcoming years which is a threatening to the world population specially the developing countries of the world.
The social aspects of the malnutrition and food security have been conceptualized under three heads such as the human health, demographics, and the socio-political issues. The issue of malnutrition is prevalent and frequently acute among the developing nations. Under nutrition and malnutrition affects the human immune system and expose the human body to various diseases. In addition to this issue, there are other socio-economic aspect, which triggers the relationship between malnutrition and disease such as the unfit for work, economic backwardness of a sick person and lack of nutritional knowledge. Due to lack of nutrition and prone to diseases, the population has lack of education, poor living conditions, cannot afford proper food nutrition, which affects the overall conditions of health and hygiene. As we all know that the increase in the world population in the developing countries has a serious impact over the agro-food sector and the equilibrium in the demand and supply of food product are not met.
Urbanization and industrialization has a greater impact over the food security and malnutrition in the developing countries of the world. Urbanization and industrialization has resulted into shortage of agricultural lands and emptying of cultivable lands especially in the developing countries. Therefore, this led to a risk of worsening the availability of agricultural and food products and could lead to the crease of social conflict n the developing countries. The involvement of the international communities in the governance of food security is a good step toward the hunger management and eradication of food insecurity in the developing nations (Cheeseman 2016).
Suggestion can be made based on the list of actions to be taken by the international community’s or other organization to help the developing nations to remove and kill hunger. The international organizations and communities should play a vital role in removing malnutrition and food insecurity. The entire food supply will have to be restructured and governed in such a way that the objective of sustainability is fulfilled. The international community’s or the developed countries should encourage economic development and increase in agricultural production. The developing countries should use the transfer of scientific knowledge to achieve food reliance. The developed countries should provide the best agricultural practices with sustainable use of resources to bridge the gap between the advanced country and the backward countries. The transfer of suitable policies and measures for the maintenance of the local system for the production and distribution of goods and services. The developing nations should assess and select the most effective practices at all level of production to manage the constant increase in the prices of the goods. However, it is also required to implement a new set of rules for the commodity market, which would be capable of handling the equitable and fair distribution of goods in the market. The developing nations should engage themselves in the exchange of cultures and food habits towards the consumption of food with the growth of population. The developing countries are endangered with the growth of population which in turns afets the global food security. Thus, the proper governance is the key point to promote sustainable development.
Conclusion
The paper contains the ethical issues that the developing nations are facing regarding the nutritional issues. Nutrition plays a vital role in the management of hunger and food insecurity. Access to high quality nutritious food should be the choices of all developing nation in the recent trends. However, the public or the population is less aware about the ethical individual choices they should make or the roles of government in the food security process. Nutrition is apolitical which results in self-defeating and poor accountability to the citizens. Proper governance and management for nutrition at all levels is required for the improvement in the nutrition. Poverty, hunger, and malnutrition can only be overcome if and only there is a proper collaboration and coordination with the governments of the national and international partnerships.
